The Executive Council of the University of the Balearic Islands held an extraordinary meeting yesterday to approve a teaching protocol in line with the suspension of face-to-face classes from Monday 16th March for two weeks to help contain the spread of Coronavirus 2019.
Curricular and extracurricular placements at businesses, organisations and institutions are also suspended, with the exception of those that can be undertaken remotely.
With regard to teaching and admin staff at the UIB (PDI and PAS), the university will encourage working from home in order to avoid as many people commuting as possible. The Executive Council today approved the UIB Action Protocol on extraordinary measures to adapt to the temporary suspension of face-to-face classes, with instructions on how to teach online. In turn, lecturers have received information and instructions on the Aula Digital platform.
Moreover, attended extracurricular cultural, sports and ongoing training activities, as well as events and conferences, have also been suspended. Mobility and exchange programmes for PDI, PAS and students that have not already begun have also been suspended. If students are in their host country, they are recommended to follow the advice of local health authorities.
These special measures shall be maintained until the health situation around Coronavirus 2019 allows for them to be reassessed and modified.
