The UIB has had to adapt the high school university entrance exams due to the social and health situation caused by COVID-19. This process complies with the instructions issued by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, the Ministry of Universities, and the guidelines set by the Regional Department of Education, University and Research. Nevertheless, any modification is subject to publication of the Ministerial Order governing the changes in features and design of the PBAU, and the deadlines set for them.
The Regional Department of Education, University and Research, and the Vice Chancellor of the University of the Balearic Islands, Llorenç Huguet, have agreed that the ordinary session for the entrance exams will take place on 7th, 8th and 9th July. They have also decided to suspend the separate entrance tests for the degrees in Early Childhood Education and Primary Education.
Given the difficulties in finishing the syllabus for assessed subjects, as well as having time to revise, research and specifically prepare for the exam to ensure that admission to the university is fair for all, the UIB has modified the PBAU exam papers so that:
- Students are not at a disadvantage due to not have covered certain block/s in class for some subjects. In this sense, they should be able to get top marks without answering the questions from some of the content blocks on the subject
- The test papers do not differ from those that other universities have made available to students and teachers for the 2019-20 academic year. In this vein, the UIB aims to contribute people remaining calm in light of the uncertain circumstances
- The test papers match the model proposed by Order PCM /139 /2020 of 17th February which sets out the features, design and assessment content for post-high school admission to university, as well as the deadlines for the tests being to be taken and the procedures for marks attained in the 2019-20 academic year to be reviewed.
