The fight against the COVID-19 pandemic has underlined the importance of sharing scientific knowledge immediately and openly amongst the research community.

Some institutions the University of the Balearic Islands belong to, such as the REBIUN library network, the Conference of Vice Chancellors (CRUE) and the Grupo 9 de Universidades (G-9) have signed a declaration calling on institutions that support and undertake research, as well as publishers and information service providers, to speed up the transition to open-access within a framework of economic sustainability.
