Resolution of the Vice Chancellor on transitioning back to face-to-face activities

Student access to the campus will be by appointment only to carry out admin procedures and take out books from the library

After consultations with the Executive Council, the Vice Chancellor of the University of the Balearic Islands has issued a new resolution on transitioning back to face-to-face admin and research activities at the university.

In general, face-to-face activities remain on hold and access continues to be restricted to all centres and buildings, as well as face-to-face teaching. In this vein, working from home continues in place for the entire academic community wherever possible, which may be combined with partial physical presence for authorised staff members.

Limited access for students

The resolution introduces certain changes depending on circumstances where students may access the university's facilities with prior authorisation: they may come in to carry out admin procedures and take out books from the library with a reservation. In addition, they may come in to perform activities that need physical attendance related to their final degree projects, master's theses and PhD theses, such as using research and laboratory facilities, or scientific equipment. All other circumstances not set out in the resolution shall be assessed and authorised, where applicable, by the Pro-Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.

Opening of laboratories and research facilities

The resolution sets out the possibility of opening and accessing laboratories, research facilities, libraries and admin services so as to prepare spaces and organise the gradual return of members of the academic community, in accordance with the terms established by the Transition Plan to the New Normality issued by the Spanish government.

Teaching and research staff may access university facilities that are dedicated to research activities. The Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research and Internationalisation shall coordinate the gradual planned return of researchers through heads of departments and the university research institute, whilst ensuring compliance with worker health and safety standards.

Gradual return of admin and services staff (PAS)

In turn, the admin and services staff will return to the campus gradually and in phases. The Head of Administration shall coordinate the start of face-to-face activities as per the needs of the different services and departments, based on a prior assessment of work stations to apply the procedure established by the Prevention Service and to adopt the organisational measures to ensure and protect staff health. The return will see measures adopted to help ensure staff can balance work and family life.
