After consultations with the Executive Council, the Vice Chancellor of the University of the Balearic Islands issued a resolution on 9th June regarding measures to progress towards the new normal. Some of the indications cover the gradual opening of the university campus, Sa Riera building and the university sites in Minorca and Ibiza and Formentera, the gradual return of lecturers and admin and services staff, as well as the opening of services and centres, and restricted access for students. The resolution includes:
One. Opening the campus and university sites
The university campus in Palma, Sa Riera building and the university's headquarters in Minorca and Ibiza and Formentera will gradually reopen from 15th June 2020.
Two. Student access
Undergraduate and postgraduate students may access the university through the appointment system that has been set up to manage admin procedures at certain services and offices.
They may request a time at the following link: <citaprevia.uib.cat>.
This service enables students to contact the Student and Academic Management Service, as well as admin services at the centres and headquarters in Minorca and Ibiza and Formentera.
Three. Staff reincorporation
1. Since the Action Protocol to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection (SARS-CoV-2) was produced by the UIB Prevention Service and approved, the last few weeks have seen the return of some researchers and admin and services staff to the university.
2. Although working from home will continue wherever possible, teaching and research staff will gradually return to the workplace over the coming weeks, in accordance with the guidelines from the Prevention Service. Staff numbers in each department shall generally be kept at around 50% capacity.
Four. Opening of buildings
1. Always in line with health and safety guidelines, the following areas shall reopen from 15th June to provide basic services:
a) Some cafeterias on the campus (specifically, those in the Mateu Orfila and Guillem Cifre buildings)
b) The Reprographics Service in the Jovellanos building
c) The Library and Documentation Service
d) CampusEsport sports facilities
e) External services such as bank branches.
2. The Library and Documentation Service will remain operating its loan service via appointment. The opening of libraries on the campus is also being prepared, although access will be solely by appointment, and students with special requirements shall have priority. The tables will be numbered and users will have to keep the safety distance set by the health authorities.
