The Regional Minister for Education, University and Research, Martí March, and the Vice Chancellor of the University of the Balearic Islands, Llorenç Huguet, met today via videoconference to set the dates for the High School University Entrance Exams (PBAU). Both institutions agreed on 7th, 8th and 9th July for the ordinary session, as well as on suspending the additional entrance tests for the degrees in Early Childhood and Primary Education for this year. These additional tests assess the communication, critical thinking, logic and mathematical skills of teaching training candidates.
The meeting was attended on the government side by the Regional Secretary for University, Research and Language Policy, Agustina Vilaret; the Director General for Planning, Academic Affairs and Centres, Antoni Morante; Director General for University Policy and Research, Josep Lluís Pons, and Gabriel Colom, Education Affairs Service advisor at the Regional Education Department.
In turn, the attendees from the UIB were the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Student Affairs, Rosa Isabel Rodríguez, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Teaching, Joan Frau, and the Director of the Technical Secretariat for University Access, Joan Antoni Mesquida.
The agreement comes a day after the Sector Conference on Education agreed to postpone the PBAU exams across Spain and offered autonomous regions a timeframe between 22nd June and 10th July to hold the ordinary session, with resits taking place before 10th September.
The Regional Minister for Education, University and Research, Martí March, stated that it was hugely important to come to an agreement quickly since now was the time to clear up any uncertainty for teachers and final-year high school students who need to sit the exams. In this sense, a quick decision would avoid as much disruption as possible.
In turn, Llorenç Huguet stated that this year's exam sessions would comply fully with safety measures for COVID-19 regarding events for over 1,000 attendees.
